Economy Makes Troops re-enlist

Bush Solves Troop Readiness Crisis and Economy All At Once

  • The Bush Economic Plan: "Sgt. Ryan Nyhus spent 14 months patrolling the deadly streets of Baghdad, where five members of his platoon were shot and one died. As bad as that was, he would rather go back there than take his chances in this brutal job market."

  • While we're bashing The Lamest Duck, here's the top 10 reasons Nixon was better than Bush. "Nixon had the decency to resign. Bush didn't."

  • With the loss in Georgia, 60 senators is now impossible, but conventional wisdom holds that Harry Reid and the Dems can pick off individual Republicans on an issue by issue basis. At FiveThirtyEight, Nate Silver ranks those Republicans (and Dems that we may lose), and rates Chuck Grassley as Vote #66: " Up for re-election -- although he'll probably win easily if he doesn't retire. Still, something like an aging Supreme Court justice, Grassley has moderated in recent years, particularly on good government issues. Iowa is turning bluer."

  • A fun toy: StateStats ranks Google searches geographically, finds correlations, and gives you a red state blue state map. A great time waster. Bonus points to the first reader who finds the search term that best correlates to the electoral college results.
