Nevada caucuses more or less crib Iowa's rules/procedures with one big change:
Nevada Democrats also allowed for creation of 'at-large precincts' for shift workers unable to attend the Saturday caucus in their home district. The rule will allow casino workers, a strong Democratic voting bloc, to attend a caucus on the Las Vegas Strip.
In other words, a sort-of absentee procedure, something the Iowa Caucuses are sorely lacking. Not sure how that'll work with national party rules against proxy voting. The Nevada papers have the same brief wording from the AP article.
At some point the lack of any absentee procedure will cause the Iowa Caucuses a problem. I'm amazed it hasn't happened already. Wonder how a lawsuit by a shift worker would play out? Or an ADA issue in Tom Harkin's home state?
Key error in the article:
Nevada Democrats did approve some differences from the Iowa's system. Attendees will be allowed to register to vote at the precinct and participate in the caucus that day. Same-day changes to party registration also will be permitted.
This is not a difference from Iowa; we already allow this.
