Fun With Maps

Fun With Maps

Ive been a map geek since childhood and have long been fascinated by the way someone can take the permanence of geography and through placement and interpretation tell endless stories. Here's some places where I wasted far too much time:

  • Strange Maps currently features a map labeling states with the names of foreign countries, with the name based on comparable size of economy. For example, California is labeled France, as the two economies are similar in size. Best bit: designating Minnesota as "Norway." Yah and uff da.

  • Jan S. Krogh's GeoSite lists various border superlatives, longests, shortests, bizarre enclaves, and so on.

  • And what's the largest (follow closely here) island in a lake on an island in a lake on an island?
