Obama, McCain win Dixville Notch

Obama, McCain win Dixville Notch

Obama and McCain won the two tiny towns in northern New Hampshire that have a tradition of midnight madness voting on Election Day. This gives the winning candidate(s) a cutesy story on the election morning news -- like this one -- and a few hours of bragging rights.

Two facts I didn't know:

  • There was once upon a time an actual reason for this. Most of the residents of Hart's Location were railroad shift workers who caouldn't get to the polls during regular hours (take that, caucuses!)
  • The two towns have a lousy track record for picking the winner.

Caandidates sometimes show up to watch. This time Duncan Hunter did; he tied Kevin Phillips BONG.
