David Duke on Steele

What's an Illinois Nazi to do?

David Duke, who not all that long ago damn near got elected governor of Louisiana, ain't happy with new GOP chair Michael Steele:
"I am glad these traitorous leaders of the Republican Party appointed this Black racist, affirmative action advocate to the head of the Republican party because this will lead to a huge revolt among the Republican base. We will either take the Republican Party back over the next four years or we will say, “To Hell With the Republican Party!” And we will take 90 percent of Republicans with us into a New Party that will take its current place!"

UPDATE: Worst... Person... in the Woooooooooooooorld!

Does this kind of cross-burning, sheet-wearing reptile even matter anymore? Politico thinks it does, if only a little: "There is a serious question of whether this could push real committed racists, a small, but real and voting, minority, away from the GOP. Hard to see them returning to what's now the party of Barack Obama."

It's hard to gauge because it's hard to poll. You might see a tiny electoral uptick for something like the Constitution Party, but that's a micrometer measure. Oooh, they went from o.o2% to 0.04%. What's more likely is the Illinois Nazis will retreat further into their caves and emerge to vote GOP in an against-Obama way.

Obama, for his part, pulled off one of the all-time great zingers Saturday night:
"I am seriously glad to be here tonight at the annual Alfalfa dinner. I know that many you are aware that this dinner began almost one hundred years ago as a way to celebrate the birthday of General Robert E. Lee. If he were here with us tonight, the General would be 202 years old. And very confused."

For the record, I hate Illinois Nazis.
