That open, good Republican district on the north side of Ankeny won't go without a (in)fight:
Pledging to be an aggressive leader for a balanced state budget, economic development, education reform, and agriculture, Ankeny resident John Landon today announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Iowa’s State House District 37.Landon joins tea partier Stacey Rogers in the race. Ankeny is now represented by Republican Kevin Koester, but the district grew so much last decade it was literally split in half. (My best line of the year: "All you western Iowa rural Republicans who got paired? This is where your district went.") Koester is staying with his house in new District 37, a swing district which actually has a slight Democratic edge.
Taking any wagers? In a GOP primary, my money is always on Tea.
Kevin Koester lives in the new house district 38 which is the south half of Ankeny and Saylor and Delaware Towships north of Des Moines which lean Democratic. I have not heard that Kevin is leaving district 38 and moving to district 37 which has a comfortable GOP registration. There may be a GOP primary in district 37 as others are interested. Dems need a good candidate in district 38. We could beat Koester and pick up a seat. He is vulnerable as he hasn't had an opponent since 08 when Pfaltzgraf came close to winning it.
ReplyDeleteKevin Koester lives in the disrict 38 which includes the south half of Ankeny and Saylor and Delaware Townships north of DM which lean Democratic. I haven't heard that he is moving to District 37 so he will have to win in district 38. He hasn't had an opponent since 08 when Pfaltzgraf nearly won. District 38 needs a good Dem candidate as Koester is probably vulnerable in his new district. District. New disrict 37 (the one we live in) is probably safe for the GOP. District 37 will probably have a GOP primary as their are other interested in it.
