District Of The Day 3: Iowa Senate District 3, Iowa House District 5 & 6

Senate District 3
Registration: D 9410, R 16356, N 13160, total 38958, R +6946
Incumbent: Bill Anderson, R-Pierson; holdover seat

Anderson won easily in 2010 when Ron Weick retired after being overthrown as Senate GOP leader after one session. The new seat keeps south Sioux City, but then wraps around the rest of the city to pick up most of Plymouth County. As a result the seat gets a little more Republican.

House District 5
Registration: D 4134, R 9277, N 6954, total 20381, R +5143
Incumbent: Chuck Soderberg, R-Le Mars, unopposed

A Democrat lost three to one in 2008, the last time Soderberg saw an opponent. Soderberg loses more than 2000 Republicans in the new map, but the seat is still solid red.

House District 6
Registration: D 5276, R 7079, N 6206, total 18577, R +1803
Incumbent: Ron Jorgensen, R-Sioux City, unopposed

House freshman Jorgensen faced one of the highest profile primaries from young conservative activist Matthew Ung, but won 56-44%. Ung seems like to run for something again. Democrats made a game effort when the former Chris Rants seat was open last cycle, but let it go this time. Jorgensen gains a few rural townships and along with them a few hundred Republicans.
