Boswell Backs Wiretap Bill

Boswell Backs Wiretap Bill

Democratic Rep. Leonard Boswell crossed party lines Saturday and backed amendments to the Foreign Intelligence Service Act (FISA). The bill, given the Orwellian name the Protect America Act, passed the U.S. House 227-183, with support from only 41 Democrats. President Bush has already signed the bill into law. TalkLeft has a good analysis of the impact.

The rest of the Iowa Delegation voted on party lines. Among presidential candidates, Democrat Dennis Kucinich opposed the bill while Republicans Duncan Hunter, Ron Paul and Tom Tancredo missed the vote.
