Vonnegut and the Village

Vonnegut and the Village

Kurt Vonnegut's death is everywhere this morning, but the Daily Iowan is the only one to mention the Iowa Writer's Workshop. (The P-C completely misses the passing of the Workshop's most famous alum.)

My rather eccentric apartment complex is still known around town as "the Vonnegut house" as he lived here in his Iowa City days. Nick Johnson spent part of his youth here, looking for Underground Railroad tracks. Allegedly there are ghosts here too though I've never had the pleasure. Perhaps today there's one more.

However, after 4 1/2 years of living like a college student it's time for me to graduate, and the newsroom and world headquarters of John Deeth Blog will be moving across town in August. The Smallest Farm will no longer be the smallest as of 2008.

The 2007 Smallest Farm is weathering the snowfall fairly well. Non-gardeners tend not to know, but peas handle cold very well, and they're now about 1 1/2 inches tall.
