Johnson County Dems, Yet Again

Johnson County Dems, Yet Again

I've gotten over it, Stephanie.

It's the normal monthly JC Dems meeting. Regular reader and school board member Patti Fields is here sporting a Hillary button; she says it's an endorsement.

This is our third gathering in seven days, and that's not counting the blog-a-thon on Tuesday.

My dad always used to stand at the back of the room at meetings and I find myself doing the same thing. He was better at standing still than I am.

Tentatively looking at October 6 for the BBQ. Might be North Liberty, might be County Fairgrounds. April 18 we're having a little get together before Jimmy Carter, with "zero percent" chance of a Carter appearance; just a chance to share Carter Goodness.

It's not all issue debates and rally hoopla and glamour and glitz here at the ole Central Committee. Instead we have a long discussion of attendance policy which reminds me of my teaching days. Every semester I had to add a couple lines to the syllabus, and each one was designed to close a loophole that someone found.

Now we get to some meat: Caroline Dieterle proposed a resolution that the flag desecration bill is bad. She words it better than that. Killer quote from Rod Sullivan: "These laws only get enforced when the gov't doesn't like what you have to say. They don't get enforced when Old Navy wants to slap it on a t shirt." Passes with two or three no votes. Motion to urge Culver to veto post-conviction relief bill passes unanimously.

Speakers: the neo-prohibitionists are here. I exchange words with them. See you at the polls, Carrie Nation.

The Edwardians are here.

Patti Fields plugs the crisis center breakfast May 5.

The Obama folks are here. They're working on getting him here, they say. That seems to be it, time to power down.
