Johnson Dems in Solon

Staff from five - or six - presidential camps patiently wait through two hours of Johnson County Dems central committee business in Solon Thursday for their three minutes in the fluorescent spotlight to make a few announcements. Hey, staffers, anyone up for a long discussion of attendance bylaws and caucus apportionment math? It's not all glamour, folks.

In no particular order:

  • Edwards camp says the Iowa City HQ to be announced soon, and candidate in-state Memorial Day weekend but no Johnson stops (rural-focused trip). Also plugs Women for Edwards house party May 19 at home of Virginia Stratton-Coulter.

  • Obama camp thanks folks for the Earth Day event.

  • Clinton camp plugs HQ grand opening Saturday, 2-3 downtown Iowa City with speaker Andy McGuire.

  • Biden camp introduces themselves, fail to mention Sunday Cedar Rapids event.

  • Richardson staffer talks at some length about self but has no actual news.

  • Cedar Rapids Draft Gore volunteer Peter Rieter offers the URL algore.gov - yes, dot-gov, he insists when questioned - which doesn't work. (Once I was back on the grid, I found it at algore.org - but you'll have to cut and paste. Not because it's my old nemesis Al, though that's a contributing factor, but more because I have principles against giving link love to someone who gets their own URL wrong.)

No presence from the Dodd camp, but how many Eastern Iowa Dems got two blast calls yesterday?

  • One fron the Senator inviting folks to the West Branch renewable energy event on "Sunday, May 5..."
  • and a second one a few hours later from a spokesperson reminding folks again about the event "Saturday, May 5 - check the date."

Somebody's not gonna get an A for that internship...

Back to Solon, legislators Dvorsky, Lensing and Jacoby cite accomplishments. Jacoby highlights stem cells, minimum wage, and civil rights, Lensing adds election law especially same day registration. Dave Leshtz of the Loebsack staff lists a full weekend of Loebsack events, including a listening post with vets, the Crisis Center pancake breakfast, the NAMI walk, and Cinco de Mayo in West Liberty.
