Caucus Date Leapfrog Update: Florida Dems Trying To Un-Jump

Ballot Access News reports the Florida Democratic Party Executive Committee voted to ask the state legislature to move the state's presidential primary to the Feb. 5 national mega-primary date.

Florida is currently scheduled for Jan. 29.  That's in violation of the Democratic National Committee's calendar, which has reserved the date for South Carolina alone.  South Carolina is supposed to be the fourth Democratic contest, following Iowa, Nevada, and New Hampshire.

If Florida does not change dates, the DNC will strip the state of more than half its delegates.  A special legislative session is scheduled for September, but the Republican legislature and GOP governor are not expected to accomodate the Democratic request.
