Gibbons, Gettemy Top Friday's Filing
Jim Gibbons, former Iowa State wrestling coach, made his congressional bid official and filed Friday in the 3rd District Republican primary. Half a dozen candidates have announced; will they all follow through and file?
On my side of the state, Rob Gettemy of Marion, the latecomer to the 2nd Congressional District race, is the second to file, joining Steve Rathje on the June 8 GOP primary ballot. 2008 nominee Mariannette Miller-Meeks and `08 Senate nominee Christopher Reed have yet to file. The winner faces incumbent Dem Dave Loebsack and Libertarian Gary Sicard.
Secretary of State Mike Mauro makes the bid for a second term official. Three Republicans are announced but none has yet filed: three-time loser George Eichhorn, Council Bluffs Council (almost as bad as Iowa City City Council) member Matt Schultz, and 2008 legislative loser Chris Sanger.
And that's it for today. No one at all filed for the legislature in another slow Friday.
