In the wake of the latest Bill Richardson oops -- his fumbled joke that "for constitutional reasons, for reasons related to the Lord" the Iowa caucuses should be first -- Kos has come out with an endorsement of sorts:
There's a nice Senate race just begging for his entrance in New Mexico. His style is clearly a great fit for his state, and it deserves non-senile, non-corrupt representation in the Senate.
That would be six term GOP incumbent Pete Domenici, last seen roaming the Senate corridors in his pajamas. No, I'm not making that up.
More to the point, Kos assesses:
You know, (Richardson)'s better than this -- his solid record confirms that -- but the national stage is clearly not for him. He's clearly ill-prepared for it.
Todd Beeton at MyDD concurs with a greatest misses list:
Richardson has a gaffe problem, whether it be his choice of Roe dissenter Justice Byron (Whizzer) White as a model Supreme Court Justice, his refusal to call for Gonzales's resignation because he was hispanic, to his response at the Logo/HRC forum that homosexuality is a choice, Richardson has demonstrated a keen ability to stick his foot in his mouth.
Leapfrogging: Gov. Jennifer Granholm signs off on a Jan. 15 Michigan primary. Will anyone care now that the candidates have pledged not to campaign there? Or will they find a way to have it both ways and work around it?
The New York Times says the GOP is ready to punish all the pre-Feb. 5 states -- including Iowa and New Hampshire -- and there's no appeal process.
2006 independent Texas guv candidate Kinky Friedman, better known as a musician and author, is planning another run, but this time as a Democrat.
And the Washington Post has great anonymous quotes about the Republican's chances in 2008 Senate races:
"About the only safe Republican Senate seats in '08 are the ones that aren't on the ballot," a GOP operative with extensive experience in Senate races said.
