Rep. Donovan Olson Endorses Obama

Rep. Donovan Olson Endorses Obama

State Rep, Donovan Olson, D-Boone, became the 12th Iowa legislator to endorse Barack Obama's presidential campaign today.

Obama ranks second among Democrats in Iowa legislative endorsements, trailing Hillary Clinton who has 16.  Joe Biden is close behind with 10.

Not to be outdone, the Biden camp announced they will have "a significant endorsement" at a Des Moines event tomorrow with Iowa House Majority leader Kevin McCarthy and South Carolina state Rep. Fletcher Smith, who recently defected from Bill Richardson to Biden.

"Senator Obama showed tremendous courage when he challenged the conventional wisdom in Washington D.C. and opposed the invasion of Iraq," Olson said in an Obama press release.  "But his greatest asset is his ability to bring people together, regardless of their differences, to solve problems.  That is why I believe he is the best candidate to provide leadership on improving health care, strengthening our schools and creating energy independence."

Olson backed eventual nominee John Kerry in 2004.
